ABSTRACT
Introduction: The respiratory infections and particularly pneumonias constitutes a health problem on the Psychiatry Hospital of Havana´s patients due to they are the first mortalityc ause, according to a study carried out on this center during the years2000-2004.
Methods: To start of the year 2005 , it began a prospective and descriptive research with the
aim to determine the morbidmortality due to acute respiratory infections since the beginning of
the year 2005 up to the end of 2013: The was constituted by the total of patients that presented
an acute respiratory infection during the studied period. As resume measures, there were
used rates and relative frequencies.
Results: The results of the 9 years study showed a mobility due to respiratory infection and
pneumonia as follows: 218, 280, 269, 232, 174, 342, 243, 190, 199 affected patients. The
mortality is showed as follows: 37,36,15,33,86,16,7,6, and 2 diseased patients for the rates of
mortality: 15,9,16,17,12.1,49.4,4,.6, 2.8,3.1,and 2 x 103, respectively. The greatest infection
by Exitus Letalis occurred on male patients, meanwhile the high number of death occurred on
elders of both sex. The 13% of atypical way of upset were identified. The standard permanence
on in an intercurrence ward was of 21 for the necessary care. The germs detected through
sputum culture shown a predominance of Negative Gram. These 9 years of study shows a
presence of a decrease on mortality caused by pneumonia. A great number of cases of upset of
the disease, either atypical or typical and the required time for treatment also decreased.
