ABSTRACT
Introduction: The evaluation of the severity of patients in intensive care units (ICU) is an extremely important task for physicians in charge.
Objective: Apply the SEGRAV-23 Score in ventilated patients admitted to the ICU.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study, between: January to December 2011 which included 122 patients mechanically ventilated was conducted.
Results: A predominance of the groups of 60 years (and over) and 39-59 years was observed. The largest number of patients had a length of stay of 1-7 days with a mortality of 33.7% but those who stayed more than 14 days reported the highest mortality (82.4%). sepsis (29.5%), stroke (22.9%), acute respiratory failure (22.1%) and multiple trauma are identified as the most frequent entities at admission, while stroke, sepsis, and acute respiratory failure are the most frequent causes of mortality. 4 points Interventions have the highest mortality and 1-2 points the highest survival.
Conclusions: The predictive system SEGRAV-23 allowed classifying patients in Class I, Class II and Class III, which was effective for assessing the severity of the mechanical ventilated patients resulting in higher scores and mortality in those patients classified as Class III.
