ABSTRACT
Sigmoid volvulus is referred to intestinal obstruction caused by torsion of a sigmoid loop around the mesenteric axis. Sigmoid volvulus usually occurs in patients between 40 and 70 years of age, markedly predominant in males, since the greater breadth of the pelvis in women allows the disappearance of the volvulus more easily in case of twisting. The purpose of this article is the clinical presentation of a 46 year old male patient with diagnosis of intestinal obstruction by sigmoid volvulus. The treatment is discussed, considering various forms, among them the endoscopic treatment in the acute phase and then definitive surgery; others carried out segmental resection and primary anastomosis and some of them leand toward resection and end colostomy for restitution in the second time. The patient underwent emergency surgery carrying out resection of the necrotic segment and Hartmann colostomy. Colostomy closure was carried out in an elective way.REFERENCES
