ABSTRACT
Objective: review the basic principles of image formation in diffusion,
protocols used for qualitative and quantitative analysis depending on
the organ studied, common errors and their principal applications in
different conditions.
Source of data: patients referred to CT Scanner del Sur.
Selection: patients with various diseases were included and underwent
diffusion sequences with different
b values (0 to 1 000 s/mm
²) depending
on anatomical location and qualitative and quantitative analysis with
the apparent diffusion coefficient.
Conclusions: diffusion is a useful tool with the advantage of rapid acquisition
and the potential to improve characterization of various conditions
because it provides quantitative and qualitative information without the need to administer contrast medium. Due to its physical properties, it
helps to distinguish benign from malignant conditions; it is an essential
complement which should be routinely included in all protocols.
