ABSTRACT

The mediastinum has some particular embryological, physiological and anatomical characteristics. Th blood, the lymph, the air and the ingested food pass through it; besides it is the area where the autonomous nerves develop a greater activity. In this level occurs the embryological development of the circulatory, respiratory and digestive system, for which it constitutes a seat for congenital malformations of several kinds, and with the inflamatory, traumatic and neoplasic processes, make a complex compartment where it is presented a wide variety of illnesses. It was presented the case of a 14 year- old- teenager hospitalized in the Respiratory Service of the Pediatric Educational Hospital General. Luis A. Milanés Tamayo in February, 2012, with health antecedents, he was attended in our center for an inflammatory lung condition, mediastina tumor appeared and it was obtained through the Xrays of the thorax and a computerized axial tomography. It confirmed the diagnostic of a Hodgkin lymphoma after taking a sample by thoracotomy.
