ABSTRACT
Introduction: the kidney chronic insufficiency leads to a progressive deterioration
of renal function, with onset of disorders in various organ systems that often leads
to sedentary, and thus, to a further deterioration of muscle function, often
aggravated during the dialysis treatments.
Objective: to study the effect of an exercise protocol in patients with CKI on
dialysis.
Materials and Methods: during three months a sample of patients treated in the
nephrology services of Center for Medical-Surgical Investigations (CIMEQ, from
spanish name) were subjected to a program -controlled and personalized- of
aerobic and callisthenic exercises, walking test, and static bike test. A group of
clinical and functional elements, anthropometric measurements, and cardiovascular
function, as a well as the questionnaire SF-36 for life quality, were evaluated.
Results: when comparing the parameters between beginning and end of the
program, significant improvement in clinical and functional elements was obtained,
as well as a highly significant improvement of skeletal muscle measurements, and
muscle strength test. The patients' responses to the questionnaire SF-36 also
showed a significant improvement in all dimensions contained therein.
Conclusions: the implemented exercise program, like part of integral rehabilitation
program, had a positive effect on the morpho-functional conditions of the patients,
and favorable impact on their life quality.
