ABSTRACT
Objective: to evaluate the intensity of pain and disability in patients with
coxarthrosis by applying magnetic and physical exercises.
Material and methods: we conducted an explanatory, experimental and
prospective, in the rehabilitation department "Flores de Catia", Caracas during the
period october 2007 - october 2008. The sample consisted of 60 patients. Variables
were collected: age, sex, pain intensity, disability grade and clinical outcome. Tests
were applied Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon.
Result: the 71, 6 % were female, predominantly aged between 61 and 65 years
(41, 6 %). the moderate pain constituted 28, 3% of patients in both groups before
the treatment but after treatment they were null pain 25 % in group I and 13, 3 %
in group II. The 16, 7 % and 18, 3 % of patients in group I and II respectively had
a disability grade III before treatment and at the end, 31,7 % in group I showed
disability grade I and group II prevailed grade III (18, 3 %). The 41, 7 % of Group
I patients had successful outcomes compared to group II.
Conclusions: there is a predominance of females in the ages between 61-65
years. The application of magnetic therapy combined with physical exercises is
beneficial for the relief of pain intensity and degree of disability, reflected in a
satisfactory clinical outcome.
