ABSTRACT
Hypertriglyceridemic pancreatitis accounts for 1 to 4 % of all episodes of acute
pancreatitis; there is consensus to identify hypertriglyceridemia as causing pancreatitis
when it rises above 10 mmol/L. None of the patients with triglyceride levels below 10
mmol/L, evidenced pancreatitis elements. Many series have reported the use of
plasmapheresis in order to reduce triglyceride levels. The beneficial effect of plasma
exchange in the treatment of severe hypertriglyceridemic pancreatitis is reported.
