Síncope e hipotensión ortostática

RESUMEN
En el presente trabajo se realiza una actualización de los aspectos conceptuales y
fisiopatológicos del síncope y la hipotensión ortostática, proponiéndose un enfoque de
enfrentamiento diagnóstico y terapéutico que tiene como base una comprensión
etiopatológica del síndrome que permita una estratificación de los pacientes según el
riesgo relativo de sufrir en el futuro episodios de muerte súbita cardiovascular y/o
episodios de morbimortalidad de cualquier tipo. Se hace énfasis en el comportamiento
del síncope y la hipotensión ortostática en los pacientes de la tercera edad,
particularizando de esta manera los algoritmos diagnóstico-terapéuticos en este grupo.
