ABSTRACT
Rasmussen disease is a progressive,
chronic focal encephalitis resistant to
medical treatment. We studied an elevenyear-
old female, with previous normal
psychomotor development, who presented
continuous partial epileptic spells during
the last three years, leading to left
hemiplegia. The diagnostic studies
performed included three MRI, EEG,
spinal tap, and SPECT. These studies, as
well as the clinical features, were
compatible with Rasmussen disease.
Functional protocols of MRI were
performed in order to evaluate speech
and spatial vision in order to plan the
biopsy.
There is no previous report of reduction
of lesions of Rasmussen disease, and in
this patient this was attributed to
immunotherapy.
