Penetrating chest trauma with cardiac injury management with emergency thoracotomy in General Hospital “Xoco”: 33 cases report

ABSTRACT
The cardiac injury is slightly frequent to observe it in General Hospitals; nevertheless, in centers of trauma the effect is major. For what every patient with thoracic trauma that is into a Unit Trauma-Shock, will must be suspected the cardiac injury, especially in patients with penetrating injury and in precordial area. There was realized a retrospective, longitudinal study where 33 patients were examinated while they be in Emergency Service of the Xoco General Hospital, with penetrating wound of thorax with suspects of cardiac injury, and controlled surgically of emergency, by means of thoracotomy and cardiac repair, in a period since 1999 until 2003. The age of the patients were randomized into 13 to 56 years. From the 33 patients 31 (94%) were male and 2 (6%) were female, left anterolateral, right anterolateral and esternotomy.
