ABSTRACT
The magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography is the most important alternative to evaluate biliopancreatic ducts.
Objective: To identify the most frequent pathology in the bile duct.
Material and methods: Retrospective study from June 2011 to May 2013; it included 32 patients who underwent magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography using single-shot turbo spin-echo sequences with a Phillips Achieva 3.0 Tesla scanner.
Results: The magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography diagnosed obstructive processes in 13 patients (40%), pancreatitis in six patients (18%); eight patients had different diagnoses (25%), and five studies were normal (15%).
Discussion: The most common diagnosis found was bile duct stones (in 13 patients), which is consistent with reports in other publications as the most common disease diagnosed by this means.
Conclusion: Currently, magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography allows a comprehensive, noninvasive and quick study of the bile duct, and the technological developments and new three-dimensional sequences improve the excellent results.
