ABSTRACT
Objective: To determine the different anatomic variants of the foramen of Monro during third ventriculostomy in pediatric patients with obstructive hydrocephalus.
Methods: We performed a longitudinal retrospective study of all patients with obstructive hydrocephalus of different etiology using endoscopic surgery in the period from January 2010 to October 2012. The sample consisted of 48 patients. A morphological analysis was performed anatomical foramen of Monro and was classified in 8 variants.
Results: He made a total of 48 surgeries to endoscopic third ventricles, as the representative casuistry occupy large holes (23 %), followed in frequency by the middle with 9. The 14.2 % of the cases operated on had a small hole or pin-point.
Conclusions: During navigation ventricular endoscopic surgeon can face different anatomical variations of the foramen of Monro. The recognition of these is important to carry out the objective of the surgery and reduced morbidity.
