ABSTRACT
The progressive narrowing of the gap among the advances derived from the human
genome sequencing and their potential clinical applications is to be expected. The
dissemination of information on bioinformatics and its usefulness for healthcare
applications is crucial in the development of skills by health professionals in the use of
available and perspective bioinformatics resources. The website Bioinformatics for
Health http://blogs.sld.cu/oserranob/) was designed to publish contents related to this
area and its medical applications. Hyperlinks were created to connect the genes,
diseases and chromosomes mentioned in the notes posted at the websites from Las
Tunas Provincial Center of Medical Genetics to the
Gene, OMIM and
Ensembl resources.
Access to several databases, algorithms and journals on bioinformatics is provided. The
websites are updated by sending messages with the new posts by electronic mail to
the National Network of Genetics. The inclusion of bioinformatics in medical genetics
information management is aimed at promoting knowledge about such discipline
among the medical and paramedical personnel within the Cuban health system.
