ABSTRACT
Introduction: During the last years the increment of the population aging has been significant and finding high levels of dementia prevalence and mild cognitive deterioration in a worldwide level.
Objective: To stand out by an update bibliographic review, the value of the relationship between the mild cognitive deterioration and the emotional changes, specifically the anxiety and depression.
Methods: Through a search done in INTERNET, there were collected classic texts as well as publications of the last 10 years and there were used those complete and novel informations about the theme. This search was done in PubMed, SCIELO and MEDLINE sites; English and Spanish descriptors were selected.
Development: As people become older, the increase of these pathologies is more visible so the emotional changes, describe by many authors as prognosticators, predecessors or they are consequences of non transmittable chronic diseases. On the psychological branch, researches about aging have been more prone to assess the cognitive aspects and their pathological
changes as the mild cognitive deterioration appearance.
Conclusions: The researches about emotional changes together with non transmittable chronic
diseases on elders should continue being a challenge for Gerontology and Psychology specialties.
