Effectiveness of genetic counseling and satisfaction of patients and relatives, Abreus municipality, Cienfuegos province: 2004-2007

ABSTRACT
Evaluation of effectiveness of genetic counseling and satisfaction by the received medical genetic services of patients and relatives, allow to design new strategies for increasing quality of health services. We proposed an evaluation of such effectiveness and satisfaction in Abreus municipality, Cienfuegos province, in 2004-2007. One hundred nine patients or their relatives were interviewed in 50 selected families, based in a no probabilistic criterion, by a structured questionnaire and the definition of adequate variables. The most of interviewed persons (92,5%) show to have good awareness about the problem which motived assistance to medical genetic services; while 95,4% qualified the taken decisions as very rational. Moreover, 97,2% qualified as good the ability for facing the problem and the repercussion for long time about taken decisions. Satisfaction of received health services was qualified as good by 97,2% of interviewed persons. Outcomes reflect the expected possitive impact in peoples to get improvement of genetic counseling and medical genetics services in general, which were introduce with the creation of the municipal center for development of Community Genetics in Abreus, Cienfuegos province, in 2003.REFERENCES
