ABSTRACT
Skin cancer is the most common
malignancy in Costa Rica.
Basal cell carcinoma is the
type most common skin cancer.
Being an epidermal neoplasia,
we must be aware of the normal
skin histology to differentiate
the histopathologic features of
carcinoma, the most common
being the formation of nests
of basaloid cells, peripheral
palisade, and the presence of
a separation or crack between
tumor cells and stroma called
“retraction artifact”.
