ABSTRACT

A clinical case presentation of a 20 year old patient whose first pregnancy was complicated by massive postpartum hemorrhage secondary to a severe premature normoinsertive placental detachment. In order to control the persistent hemorrhage uterine and hypogastric artery ligations were performed, preserving the uterus. Approximately four years later the patient became pregnant once again, and after an uncomplicated pregnancy, gave birth to a healthy full term baby via cesarean. One can conclude that vascular ligations can control obstetric hemorrhages preserving not only the uterus and the patient’s life but also not interfering with future pregnancies.
