ABSTRACT
In renal transplant, controversy still exists regarding specific cases where native kidney nephrectomy is needed and when to perform renal transplantation. This work deals with a group of eight patients from the Centro Hospitalario Nuevo Sanatorio Durango, with clear indication of nephrectomy, in whom we decided to perform renal transplantation simultaneously. The group consisted of four men and four women; the mean age was 26.3 years, all received living donor transplants. The mean time from the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease to the surgical event was 30.5 months; the renal replacement therapy was hemodialysis for four patients, peritoneal dialysis for two, and two more received no treatment. The indication for nephrectomy was vesicoureteral reflux in seven patients and polycystic kidney disease in one. The mean surgical time was 249 minutes, the average trans-surgical bleeding was 425 mL, the mean pretransplant serum creatinine was 8.5 mg/dL, and the mean serum creatinine a year after the transplant was 1.08 mg/dL. In this study we observed that performing both major procedures simultaneously did not affect the graft function.
