ABSTRACT
Otosclerosis, exclusive of the human condition, is confined to the otic capsule, as a result of this process is progressive hearing loss, affects predominantly female, in an age range of 20-40 years, the diagnosis is clinical and confirmed by conventional audiometric tests. The treatment of choice in advanced phases of the disease is the stapedectomy, wich implemented in the middle of the last century and refined by employing laser system at the end of the decade of the 70. A number of 55 were treated with laser stapedectomy in Regional Hospital «General Ignacio Zaragoza» of ISSSTE between March 2009 and April 2012. Satisfactory results were obtained in more than 80% of the patients after surgery, registered audiometry, obtaining an average gain of 33 dB, only one present a complication consisting to the formation of a granuloma. Decrease was recorded in the symptomatology in the immediate postsurgical period, with consequent reinstatement to activities of daily living, demonstrating that adjuvant use of laser system offers advantages in reducing manipulation in middle ear. This not a significant in the way that does not replace traditional surgery, considering it is an excellent tool for experienced surgeons.
