ABSTRACT
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a lethal and frequent condition, when present therapeutic approach is oriented towards
preventing further complications, often with unsettling results. Consequently, it is important to identify patients who
are susceptible and at risk of developing AKI because prompt recognition will be a determining factor towards a
favorable resolution. Predictive models of AKI will be of use to the clinician to identify the patient who will develop this
complication and thereby take preventive and intensive measures when required. These stratifying strategies will
eventually translate in a decreased incidence of AKI.
