Characterization of the exogenous obesity in a group of patients taken care of in consultation of pediatrics endocrinology

ABSTRACT
It was carry out an observacional descriptive prospective study with the objective to determine
the predominance of the exogenous obesity in the consultation of Pediatric Endocrinology of the
Teaching General Hospital “Capitán Roberto Rodríguez Fernández” of Moron. The sample was
constituted by 48 patients in pediatric age with exogenous obesity of one or another sex, attended
from January until December, 2010. The most excellent results were the following ones: the
predominance of exogenous obesity was 62%; the most represented age group was from 10 to 18
years with 24 adolescents for 50%; the masculine sex prevailed in 54,2%; the biggest number of
obese were included in the severe category for 97,7%; relating the grade of exogenous obesity to
other studied variables, the acantosis nigricans and the abdominal obesity appeared with major
frequency in the children with severe obesity with 94,3% and 95,8% respectively; inside the same
category, the study reported 8,3% of patients with arterial hypertension, 45,8% with
microalbuminuria print, 20,0% with hipercolesterolemia, 14,6% with hipertrigliceridemia and
27,1% of not alcoholic liver diseases. It were not reported cases with disorders in the fasting
glucose.
