ABSTRACT
During pregnancy, epilepsy is considered the most frequent neurological disorder affecting up to 1% of women of
childbearing age. Control of disease remains a factor that contributes significantly to maternal and perinatal morbidity
is necessary to proper management from initial preconception through lactation to reduce these risks, from choosing
a contraceptive method that does not reduce its effectiveness by the disease or its treatment, changing the
therapeutic regimen before pregnancy to reduce the risk of malformations defects or disruptions in cognitive
development. Other important considerations include prenatal diagnosis of fetal malformations, the use of folic acid
and vitamin K, and the board of nursing.
