ABSTRACT
A retrospective descriptive observational study was carried out among 2010-2012, with the
objective of characterizing the risk factors of Gestational Diabetes in patients with or without the
diagnosis of this illness and their relationship with the morbidity. Keeping in mind the appearance
frequency of complications in pregnancy patients, as for: gain weight, uterine height, morbidity
during the pregnancy, results of the pregnancy in connection with the weight and gestational age
and postnatal alterations of the newborn infant. It could verify that in the pregnancy patients
group with risk factors for Diabetes Mellitus that were not diagnosed, neither they received
treatment, were more frequent the complications, in comparison with the diabetics patient that
had risk factors but were appropriately treated, for example: the incidence of macrosomic children
in the first group was 18.96%, while in the second one was only 10.34%. The medical work in
team, the pregnancy investigation with risk factors and the correct diagnosis, as well as the
beginning of treatment and the obstetric monitoring allow to avoid or reduce the complications for
the mother and the fetus.
