ABSTRACT
Introduction. Solar damage in the skin affect great number of people.
Methods. A
transverse, prospective study was carried out in 35 people of Frontier Troop
Detachment. A questionnaire was applied to evaluate the knowledge about solar
damage in the skin.
Results. The patients with phototypes II and III was
predominated and sun exposition in the high radiation time in the last year was
predominated too. In the main showed high knowledge about environment factors
with middle knowledge about causes and clinical manifest ations of photo cutaneous
damage. Even though, the people showed negative attitudes in relationship with the
photoprotection in social and labor activities.
Conclusions. A high risk to suffer solar
cutaneous diseases was observed in the people. They are no t protected to the sun
ultraviolet radiation and doing labor activities in the fresh air. Even so they have
knowledge about photodamage and photoprotection they not approve preventives
attitudes.
