ABSTRACT

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in 100 older adults, who attended the Geriatrics Department of "Saturnino Lora Torres" Specialties Polyclinic in Santiago de Cuba, during the trimester January-March of 2012, in order to psychologically assess the elderly with risk factors for Alzheimer disease. To determine whether there were signs of dementia tests of Hachinski, Mini-mental and Hasegawa were used. Alcohol abuse, followed by family history of the disease and moderate impairment prevailed in the series. It is concluded that in Geriatrics Department the determination of risk factors for that condition and tests are vital for the early detection of cognitive impairment in the elderly.
