ABSTRACT
Pulmonary aspiration of gastric contents is one of the most feared complications of anesthesia. Recently several studies have shown that ultrasonographic measurement of antral cross-sectional area is an important tool to assessement the gastric volume and contents and is a simple and non-invasive method to evaluate the broncoaspiration risk in the perioperative period.
