Surgical activity behaviour of a maxillofacial surgeon in one year

ABSTRACT
An analytical, transversal study was carried out in the surgery maxillofacial department of the University General Hospital of Morón, Ciego de Avila province, between January and December 2011, with the aim to characterize the surgical activity behavior of a maxillofacial surgeon in a year. Taking into account the variables sex, age, race and surgical classification, some information was compile in (major surgery, minor surgery and ambulatory ), besides, type of anesthesia, distribution of interventions by month, frequency of diagnosed pathologies according to affected tissue, productivity of the room and complications. Data were obtained from surgical reports in the statistics department of the hospital, processed and presented in tables and graphics. More than half of patients were feminine, among 35-59 years and white race. Around two-thirds of surgeries were major and almost the whole of them were ambulatory. The impacted third molar and basal cell carcinoma were the most frequent pathologies. The minor surgery room showed an effectiveness more than the 80%, and the relation of patients operated by day surpassed to the average established.REFERENCES
