ABSTRACT

Introduction: In pediatrics, bronchial carcinoid tumor is a rare neoplasia and is characterized with slow growth and progression. Frequently, it is mistaken with other diseases, which is, a main cause for late diagnosis.
Description and Objective: We treated a 14 year-old female adolescent with a long standing bronchial carcinoid tumor. She was admitted into the emergency unit with severe hemoptysis. Immediately after, she had a bronch oscopy and bleeding originated from the left bronchus which turns out to be very difficult to control. Therefor e, it was necessary to prepare a left pneumonectomy, but the patient died in the early postoperative period. Her parents did not permit an autopsy. This fact encouraged a study of the surgical specimen and review of the medical literature.
Discussion: We studied the clinical presentation for bronchial carcinoid tumor, histological conditions and cur rent therapeutic techniques.
