ABSTRACT
The styloid process originates from the tympanic portion of the
temporal bone, its growth or ossification of the stylohyoid ligament
may cause several symptoms, among which are dysphagia,
odynophagia, facial pain, otalgia, neck pain, trismus among others.
Some of these symptoms in the presence of an elongated
styloid process are known as Eagle syndrome. The diagnosis is
based on clinical examination and CT imaging, 3D reconstruction
is useful. Surgical treatment is indicated in those who failed
medical treatment and can be performed by transoral approach
or external approaches. This paper reports two cases diagnosed
and treated in the Department of Otorhinolaringology of the Centro
Médico Nacional 20 de Noviembre, and makes a review of cases
reported in the literature in order to establish the clinical features
of this entity and the results of the treatments described.
