Femoral head osteonecrosis. Surgical treatment

ABSTRACT
A descriptive cross-sectional study of all 42 patients whose illness had been diagnosed as femoral head osteonecrosis and thus were admitted to the Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Service of the Manuel Ascunse Domenech Hospital was conducted from october 1999 to october 2001. Females prevailed (73.8%) whereas patients aged 31 to 40 prevailed (54.7%). Steroid use and alcohol abuse prevailed as causes (40.4% and 21.4% respectively). Osteonecrosis stage II of Ficat’s and Arlet’s classification prevailed among 38% of patients, osteotomies were used in 30.9%, arthrodeses in 9.5%, and total arthroplasty in 14.2%. Excellent and good results prevailed (38% and 42.8% respectively).REFERENCES
