ABSTRACT
Background: Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia is basically an altered differentiation of squamous cells of the cervix, which affects the different levels of thickness of the structure, these changes are considered precursor of invasive cervical neoplasia. Objective: To analyze the cytological and histopathological diagnosis of cervical biopsies and excisions that was performed more frequently in the colposcopy clinic of the University Hospital of the City of Torreon, Coahuila. During the period from 2004 to 2009 and to identify risk factors associated with the age group that most often are carriers of squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL).
Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective, longitudinal study of cytology and histopathology reports of patients attending the outpatient clinic at which he performed a Pap smear, colposcopically directed biopsy with positive outcome, was performed using electrosurgical excision. All cytological transformation zone of the cervix were taken with the brush of polyethylene (Colpotre). Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS for Windows version 12.0. We used variables and Chi square cross considering p <0.05 as statistically significant value.
Results: In the study period 12067 smears were performed, in addition to 2155 colposcopy-directed biopsy and cervical and 388 excision. Were reported with squamous intraepithelial lesion (SIL) 1508 biopsies (69.9%) and 332 excisions (85.5%). The age group with the highest incidence of disease occurred between the third and fourth decade of life, as a risk factor the number of sexual partners increases injuries presenting high-grade squamous intraepithelial (HSIL).
Conclusions: The most frequent neoplasm was reported by histopathological injury was low-grade squamous intraepithelial (LSIL) associated with infection by human papillomavirus. They also relate the number of sexual partners as a risk factor for HSIL.
