ABSTRACT
Acoustic schwannomas are benign slow-growing tumors in the upper division of the vestibular nerve with an incidence of 1.9 per 100,000 habitants. Nowadays, the support of neuroimaging technology with clinical and implemented audiologic examination, these tumors can be diagnosed in early stages and even as a clinical finding. Worldwide, only 6% is classified as large tumors at the moment of diagnosis. We report the case of a 56 year old woman, showing hearing loss, unilateral tinnitus and otalgia and gait instability, symptoms suggests retrocochlear pathology so that audiological studies are performed increasing suspicion; as well as neuroimaging studies, showing a 37 x 38 x 28 mm occupying mass in cerebellopontine angle cistern, because of its size it is listed in Koss classification as stage IV. Supporting the diagnosis of schwannoma.
