ABSTRACT
Anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies constitute auto-antibodies directed against to citrullinated proteins that are highly prevalent in rheumatoid arthritis. High titles of anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies in serum can be observed in early stages of erosive disease. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha plays a relevant role on the pathogenesis of inflammatory process in rheumatoid arthritis and constitutes a target for some therapies with the aim to obtain a significant control of the disease activity. To date, antitumor necrosis factor-alpha agents are one of the most effective strategies to achieve the appropriate control of disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis, although the clinical effect of these agents on the antibodies titles are not well identified. This non-systematic review evaluates the evidence observed in longitudinal studies about the effect of antitumor necrosis factor-alpha agents on the serum levels on anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies.
