ABSTRACT
Hydrocephalus is a pathologic enlargement of the ventricular system, secondary to an increased volume of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This disease can be acquired or congenital. The clinical signs vary from total absence of manifestation to alteration of mental status. The medical treatment and/or surgery could stabilize these patients, but their prognosis continues to be guarded to poor. This article presents the evaluation of three clinical cases from the Veterinary Teaching Clinic of the University of Antioquia, that presented a diagnosis of congenital hydrocephalus, each one with a myriad of clinical signs. The patients breeds were two Poodles, who were siblings, and a Pomerian, there ages ranged between 1.5 and four months. This article additionally presents, the different causes, diagnostic approaches, congenital and acquired hydrocephalus treatment, offering the small animal clinician, an ample approach to this disease that is presented with certain frequency.
