ABSTRACT
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a disabling and progressive neurological disorder with diverse motor and nonmotor symptoms that affect patient’s functionality as well as their expectatives about their phscial, mental and social well being which in turn impactsdirectly on the quality of life. There is currently no cure for PD and therefore the objective of management is aimed at reducing symptoms and neutralizing their effects on quality of life. Clinical instruments have been developed in order to measure quality of life in patients with PD that allow us to comprehensively assess not only the clinical but also the effect of treatment and other interventions in their daily life activities. This paper describes the properties and characteristics of existing clinimetric instruments for assessing the quality of life of patients with PD, as well as the main factors determining it.
