ABSTRACT
Introduction: The Occupational Therapy, within its different approaches from treatment helps the development of the activity of the game in the children with cerebral palsy when using Assistive Technology. This is defined as all equipment or service that can be used to maintain or improve the functional capacities of the people with disability.
Objective: To analyze the Volitional Level in the game obtained with the use of a switch adapted to a computer mouse in children with cerebral palsy quadriplegic spastic moderate cerebral palsy.
Patients and methods: The investigation was made in the Occupational Therapy Department of the Infantile Rehabilitation, Teleton Center´s, State of Mexico. Twelve patients were included in the study, 7 male and 5 female, with an age between 8 to 12 years. This is an observational prospective, opened, case-control study whit related samples, where the Volitional Level of the patient was calculated by the Pediatric Volitional Questionnaire (CVP), there were taken an initial evaluation without adapted environment and a final one with modified environment (Assistive Technology).
Results: The statistical analysis showed statistical significance between the initial and final evaluations in each one of the items, using a T of Wilcoxon Test was calculated. The following items were significant: Trining New Things p = 0,001; Remaining Involved p = 0.0008; Practices Abilities p = 0,002; Looks for Challenges p = 0,0002; Modifies the Environment p = 0,0035, and Using the Imagination p = 0.0003.
Conclusion: The Assistive Technology impact in a positive way the volitional level of the children with Infantile Cerebral Palsy type quadriplegic spastic of moderate grade.
