Genital Warts treatment with Podophylin, Trichloroacetic Acid and Criotherapy.Comparative Study

ABSTRACT

Genital Warts are benign proliferation of skin and mucous membrane due to infection with HPV 6 and 11 in 95 % of cases. Contagious with the disease depend on the localization of lesions, the amount of virus, grade and type of contact and patient immunology system. The diagnosis is clinic and the laboratory (seric antibodies, inmunohistoquimical, ADN hibridation, biopsy, DNA or RNA viral nucleic acid or capside protein of the virus). Treatment classically are divided into two groups: Chirurgical (Cryotherapy, Surgery, Criosurgery, Electrosurgery) and no Chirurgical (Podophyllin, Trichloroacetic acid, Interferón, Podofilox, Imiquimod, Bleomicine, Retinoic Ácid, etc.)The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the efficacy of the Podophyllin, Trichloroacetic acid and Cryotherapy in anogenitals warts treatment.We realized a Clinical Assay between years 2003 and 2005 at Manuel Fajardo Hospital, Dermatology Service. The Universe was composed by people who were suffering from anogenitals warts. They have to consent to participate in the investigation. The statistical analyses were descriptive and for homogeneity the Chi-square was the statistic method. The rate of cure was over 90 % in the three groups and Podophyllin was the most innocuous of the three. The side effects described for all treatment coinciding with the worldwide scientific reports.
