ABSTRACT
Background: The term “limbic system surgery” is the current term to name what was previously known as “psycho” term was
used by Egaz Moniz in 1937 to describe the procedures ablactivos frontal lobe to decrease psychiatricsymptoms.
Objective:
Make a clinical review of all cases that have so far been subjected to this type of procedure, see selected psychiatric illnesses,
especially the methodology and results.
Method: So far they have been subjected to surgery of the limbic system 18 patients,
5 patients with diagnoses of anorexia nervosa, 10 with aggressive refractory cases, 3 cases with obsessive compulsive
disorder, in a period from 1994 to 2007. Different scales were applied and were carefully selected by a multidisciplinary
committee, met all criteria for refractoriness.
Results: We present some of the results obtained before and after being
subjected to surgical treatment in cases of aggression, anorexia and obsessive compulsive disorder refractory, with clinical
improvement in most cases.
Conclusion: We found that our patients have significant improvement in terms of diseases that fall
into this series of patients responded favorably to each one and therefore we expect the subsequent view of each order to go
forward with its clinical and psychiatric
