ABSTRACT
Objectives: The factors related to the Postraumatic Syndrome, mainly secondary to mild cranial trauma, is a controversial
topic. This work has the objective to establish the relationship among the time of hospitalization, the persistent symptoms
and the period of reincorporation to work with different grades of severity of the mild cranial trauma.
Material and
method: The sample was conformed with 94 patients among 252 patients with mild cranial trauma admitted at the
Teaching Hospital “Manuel A Domenech” (Camagüey, Cuba) using the following criteria: Patients with residence in the
city of Camagüey to allow a further interview in their homes by the authors 3 to 6 months after the hospital discharge.
Exclusion criteria: patients who died by any cause, persons that could not be interviewed personally or patients that
presented a precarious clinical state as a result of illnesses not related to the cranial trauma in the moment of the visit;
of these, 67 patients returned to work. The interview was guided to know the time of hospitalization, the persistent
symptoms and the period of reincorporation to work. A multivariate study was practiced using the statistical package
SPSS/PC+.
Results: A high efficiency of the variable “Social Repercussion” with all the grades of severity of the mild
cerebral trauma was detected, being this more evident in the group of more severity.
Conclusions: In the genesis of the
postraumatic syndrome related to mild cranial trauma psychological, social and organic factors are combined.
