ABSTRACT
Ozone consists of three oxygen atoms, their uses in medicine have been studied for many years. In dentistry, ozone has had positive effects, the application of ozone in any of its presentations, either gaseous, oil or in aqueous form over bacteria with high or low pathogenicity, results in a decrease in number of bacterias and its reproductive or progressive capacity, in some cases even in the complete absence of them, showing beneficial aspects for both, the clinician and the patient. Currently it is considered as a possible adjuvant factor in periodontics. The oxidative potential of ozone gas is useful both in infections and in wound healing, as it promotes an acceleration of the physiological process of healing, also with a significant decrease in pain. However, it should be considered that ozone in high concentrations has the ability to kill almost any viable organism.
