ABSTRACT
Bone-anchored hearing systems (BAHS) technology was adopted from dental research in titanium implants and osseointegration. BAH system was initially introduced to replace bone vibration devices, for patients unable to use air conduction hearing aids (mastoidectomy cavity patients, recurrent otorrhea, congenital aural atresia). The latest application is its use as a method of transcranial transmission signal in cases of unilateral hearing loss, such as acoustic neurinoma, sudden hearing loss, Ménière's disease and others. In this article we review the history of the BAHS, its technology, indications, the surgery for placement, complications and outcomes.
