ABSTRACT
Introduction: Dexmedetomidine (Precedex) is a composite imidazole, which produces its effects to bind to receptors α2-adrenergic. The receptor agonist’s α2 have been used successfully in the treatment of patients with arterial hypertension and treatment of surgical patients, obtaining analgesia, anxiolysis, sedation and sympathicolysis.
Objective: Describe the clinic-hemodynamic behavior of the drug, in patients with severe preeclampsia.
Site: Intensive care in obstetrics, General Hospital of Mexico, «Dr. Eduardo Liceaga», Mexico, D.F.
Material and methods: Number of cases, surgical puerperium with severe pre-eclampsia patients, treated with infusion of dexmedetomidine rate of 0.37 µg/Kg/min during 12.6 hours.
Results:
Age 27.7 ± 7.9
Weeks/gestation 35.3 ± 3.5
Deeds 2.1 ± 2.0
Mean arterial pressure 120.6 ± 13.1 94.9 ± 10.4 p ‹ 0.05
Heart rate 99.7 ± 14.9 84.8 ± 10.6 p ‹ 0.05
Respiratory rate 18.9 ± 3.4 18.8 ± 3.2 NS
Spending heart 5.3 ± 1.9 5.6 ± 1.5 NS
Systemic Vascular resistance 1,810.2 ± 579.1 1,521.3 ± 625.9 NS
Duration 12.6 hours
Stay in the ICU 40.6 hours
Newborn weight 2,397 ± 895 g
Patient weight 63.3 ± 14.7 Kg
Discussion: The experience shown still in preliminary form seems to facilitate the treatment of this group of women.
Conclusions: Dexmedetomidine is a drug with properties appropriate in the postoperative treatment of severe preeclampsia.
