ABSTRACT
Between 2009 and 2011 a group of teachers, researchers, students and administrative staff from various departments and universities, coordinated by the University of Valladolid and accompanied by two associations of women, conducted a collaborative network experience named International Seminar for Researching and Training in Equal Opportunities which sought to promote gender sensitive teaching at university level. The collaborative action research methodology employed was coherent with the European Higher Education Area principles. It aimed at achieving an educational practice able to visualize the complex and unequal gender relationships in our societies and promoting awareness processes and new attitudes for social change starting from the study, reflections, dialogue and practice of group skills. The seminar developed a wide range of activities that benefited from a high turnout and generated many synergies between participants which have opened up new lines of work. At present, the seminar seeks to consolidate the synergies achieved through the development of a Latin American Network for Training and Research in Equal Opportunities that deals with the study of equality between men and women as a cornerstone towards new knowledge societies. Some of the plans of the network are the development of a virtual community made up of the university members whose mission is mutual support in finding resources for academic activities and the promotion of a gender sensitive teaching, the joint in research projects, conferences and scientific publications, and the promotion of knowledge transfer and students and faculty exchanges.
