ABSTRACT
It have been developed several scales with the aim to test the validity and reliability of Bowen´s construct of Differentiation, one of those scales which it has been tested in many studies and it has shown empirical validity is the Differentiation of Self Inventory created by Skowron and Friedlander (1998). The aim of this study was to apply the inventory to a Mexican population to observe its statistical characteristics. Participants were 250 people (men and women), age range 18-57, most of them were single undergraduate students. The results showed substantial differences in comparison with the results showed by scale´s creators. The reliability obtained was α = .77, only two factors account for 23.7% of the variance. These aspects show that, statistically speaking, the scale is univariate. These results are ascribed to the differences of language as a consequence of the translation, cultural characteristics, and characteristics of the population chosen to the study. Concluding that it is necessary keep working with the scale with the purpose of develop a scale which fit better to a Mexican population.
