ABSTRACT
Monilethrix is a rare disorder of the hair characterized by uniform elliptical nodes (bead hair) and internodal constrictions along the hair shaft. The disorder is usually transmitted in an autosomal dominant fashion with incomplete penetration and variable expressiveness. A two year old girl had abnormalities on the scalp since birth. An examination revealed short hair and follicular hyperkeratosis. The optical microscope examination of the hair shaft showed alternation of narrowings and knots. No relatives were affected. We considered that it was a novel mutation.
