ABSTRACT
Introduction. The characteristics and dimensions of the coronary arteries in the cuban population have not been described.
Methods.
Descriptive cross-sectional study with random sample of 62 cases previous informed consent, of the 386 to which free of significant lesions in
coronary angiography practiced at the CIMEQ between 2006 and 2008. The diameter, length, completion and ramifications of the epicardic coronary
arteries were evaluated, making quantitative angiography to the proximal segment with the software of the equipment Integris HM-3000 (Philip) and
Artist Zee (Siemens). Frequency allocations, measures of central tendency and test of differences between averages were applied.
Results.
The length of the left main was 10.23 ± 4.87 mm, the diameter in masculine sex 4,79mm and feminine 4,48mm. The descendent anterior diameter in men
was 3.68 mm. and in women 3,59 mm, in 98,34 % the artery arrived at the apex and originated up to seven septales and diagonals branches.
The circumflex artery in 27.4 % was short, originated up to four marginal and three atrial branches, its diameter was of 3,24 mm and 3,25 mm in men
and women respectively. The right coronary in 98.4 % was long and originated up to four auricular and ventricular branches, with diameter of 3,46 mm in
masculine sex and 3,16 mm in the feminine.
Conclusions. The diameter of the coronary arteries is greater in masculine sex. The left main turns out to be
the greater. The dimensions, branches and complexity of the coronary arteries in the studied population agree with the classic description.
