ABSTRACT
The pathogenesis of diverticular disease of the colon is not yet fully understood. Eating a diet low in fiber and increased colonic
intraluminal pressure are two well-established factors, but there are other changes that have not been studied thoroughly, as the
increase in the concentration of elastic fibers in the muscle taeniae coli of the colon wall.
