Prevalencia de quistes cervicofaciales en el Hospital Juárez de México

ABSTRACT

Aim. To determine the frequency of jaw cysts found in patients treatet in the Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the Juarez Hospital of Mexico in the period from January 2004 to August 2009, and to assess the epidemiological behavior of these conditions. Material and methods. A descriptive and retrospective study. Was analized 700 patient files sent to histopathological studies from the Maxillofacial Surgery Service. Results. 89 cystic lesions were included, 84.26% were odontogenic cyst and 15.74% of non odontogenic cysts. Developmental odontogenic cysts were most common with 70.66% of cases. The most common was the odontogenic keratocyst in 30 cases. From the inflammatory odontogenic cysts, half of the cases were periapical cysts.
