ABSTRACT
The development of a wound infection depends on the complex interplay of many factors. Infections of the surgical wound are
one of the most common complications in hospitalized patients and are an important cause of morbidity and mortality. The delay
in recovery and subsequent increased length of hospital stay also has economic consequences. The new management of wound
infections indicates that the wound bed must be in proper conditions to initiate the healing process. The use of a bacteria binding
wound dressing with hydrophobic coating with a fatty acid derivative (dialkylcarbamoyl chloride, DACC) is a new treatment for
patients with wound infection. When bacteria or other micro-organisms come into contact with these wound dressings in a moist
environment, they are bound to the dressing surface and are removed from the wound when dressing is changed.
